Pay attention to performance changes
If similar loads suddenly take longer, the dryer or room becomes hotter, or the exterior flap stops opening normally, the exhaust route may warrant assessment. These signs can have more than one cause, so avoid assuming cleaning alone will solve the problem.
Keep the outdoor outlet visible
Leaves, vegetation, snow and animal guards can affect an exterior termination. Health Canada recommends inspecting outside vents and keeping them clear. Do not reach into a vent or climb to an unsafe location.
Make the request specific
A specific request is easier to quote: “stacked dryer in a second-floor closet, exterior vent near the roofline” is more useful than “dryer is slow.”
