Common dryer vent repair findings
A restricted vent and a damaged vent can produce similar symptoms. Ask for evidence before approving work and make sure the person doing the repair is qualified for the materials and building involved.
| Finding | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Crushed transition connector | What replacement material is proposed, and will the dryer maintain safe clearance? |
| Disconnected section | Where is the separation, is the area accessible, and could lint or moisture have entered the space? |
| Damaged exterior cover | Will the replacement allow proper airflow and suit the wall or roof assembly? |
| Excessive bends or long route | Is rerouting feasible, and what appliance or building requirements apply? |
| Unsuitable duct material | What material is recommended by the appliance instructions and applicable code? |
| Booster fan issue | Is electrical or specialized fan service required beyond vent cleaning? |
Cleaning and repair should be separate decisions
A provider may discover damage during inspection or cleaning. Ask them to pause, show the finding and provide a separate repair scope. That makes it easier to understand what was included in the original quote and what has changed.
Ask for the exact affected section
“Repair dryer vent” can mean replacing the short connector, securing a joint, changing an exterior hood or opening a wall to reach concealed ducting. The scope should identify the location, material, access work and restoration responsibility.
Metal ducting and manufacturer instructions
Toronto Fire Services advises rigid or flexible metal ducting and a direct vent path. Your appliance installation instructions and applicable building or fire requirements should guide a specific repair. This website does not provide code or engineering advice.
When another trade may be needed
An electrical fan problem, wall opening, roof penetration, fire-separation work or mould/moisture concern may require a different qualified trade. A responsible provider should explain limits instead of treating every issue as a simple vent-cleaning job.
